Creating a Domestic Violence Safety Plan

Make sure you have a safety plan in place before leaving a relationship or filing a domestic violence restraining order.

When you're planning to leave a relationship or file a restraining order, you should always have a safety plan in place to make sure that you are not placed in further danger. The plan should include practical and vital information about what you will do in different situations. In emergencies, your brain may not function the same way as it does when you are calm. The National Center on Domestic Violence has a worksheet that can help you plan. You can download it at the link here: DV Safety Plan
