Most of the artificial intelligence (AI) contract review tools we checked do not publish a price. Of the 17 tools in this comparison, seven list one on their own sites. Published per-user prices run from $30 per user per month (Microsoft 365 Copilot, which also requires a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan) to $500 per month for a solo or fractional general counsel (GC) on GC AI's Individual plan. Among legal-specific tools the lowest listed price is $40 per user per month (LizzyAI Pro).

Key takeaways

  • Published legal-specific per-user prices include $40 to $70 a month (LizzyAI) and $145 to $200 a month billed annually (Gavel Exec at $1,740 per user per year, Law Insider SimpleAI at $1,790 per user per year, goHeather Starter at $200 per month for one seat).
  • GC AI, goHeather and Law Insider publish single-user prices and quote their team plans.
  • Spellbook, LegalOn, Harvey, Ivo, LEGALFLY and Wordsmith publish no dollar figure.

Last updated October 30, 2026. We checked every price on each vendor's own website on October 30, 2026. Gavel makes Gavel Exec.

Which tools do not publish a price?

Ten of the 17 tools publish no dollar figure, including Spellbook, LegalOn, Harvey, Ivo, LEGALFLY and Wordsmith. Half of them (Spellbook, LegalOn, LEGALFLY, DocJuris and Juro) say how a quote is built: by users, team size or contract volume. Table 2 records what each vendor says.

How do AI contract review vendors price their software?

Of the 12 vendors whose pages state a pricing model, nine charge per user, by the month or the year. The other three charge per contract (LegalSifter) or by contract volume (DocJuris and Juro), and Microsoft includes its legal features in a per-user Copilot license. Per-user bills grow with headcount, and per-contract or volume bills grow with the number of agreements you review.

Some plans also cap usage: Gavel Exec includes 1,000 queries per user per month, LizzyAI 7 million tokens per user per month and LegalSifter a set number of annual reviews. GC AI (unlimited chats), Law Insider (unlimited drafts and reviews), goHeather, LegalOn and LEGALFLY describe their plans as unlimited or without usage limits.

What drives the cost for a law firm compared with an in-house team?

For a law firm, cost follows the number of lawyers who need a seat, because most published prices are per user. In-house tools such as DocJuris and Juro price by contract volume, and some plans include access for business users.

Plans aimed at one user come from goHeather (Starter, 1 seat), Law Insider (SimpleAI, for solo users), GC AI (Individual) and LizzyAI (Pro, for individual professionals). Gavel Exec offers discounted team pricing from 10 seats, and Thomson Reuters shows CoCounsel pricing online to new customers at firms with up to 10 attorneys.

For billing clients, the American Bar Association (ABA) says a lawyer may charge for time spent entering information into a generative AI tool and reviewing the output, but should not charge a client to learn the tool, according to the ABA's summary of Formal Opinion 512 (July 29, 2024).

LegalOn's suites include view-only licenses for business users, and Juro, DocJuris and LegalSifter's top tier offer unlimited users. Single sign-on sits on GC AI Team, LegalOn Contracting Suite and LegalSifter's unlimited-user tier.

What hidden costs should you ask about?

A list price can leave out minimums, commitments, setup fees and base licenses. A vendor without a published price may include any of them.

  • Spend minimums: LizzyAI's Team, Organization and Enterprise plans carry monthly minimums of $250, $1,000 and $5,000.
  • Commitments: LEGALFLY subscriptions are typically annual, GC AI bills Team yearly, and Microsoft's $31.50 monthly price still carries an annual commitment. Gavel Exec's $1,740 and Law Insider's $1,790 prices are billed annually, and Thomson Reuters sells CoCounsel Legal on 1-, 2- or 3-year plans.
  • Platform and build fees: LEGALFLY's platform fee covers support, a private environment, onboarding and configuration. DocJuris charges a one-time build fee for its built-for-you option.
  • Playbook setup: Spellbook includes a Playbook Build Service on in-house plans; ask whether setup is included. See best contract playbook software.
  • Word add-in or web access: all seven tools in Table 1 list a Word add-in or Word integration. Gavel Exec also has a web app, but redlining a specific document or creating playbooks requires its add-in.
  • Base licenses and add-ons: Microsoft 365 Copilot needs a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan, GC AI sells legal research databases as add-ons, Juro charges for deeper integrations, and LEGALFLY charges extra for on-premise deployment.
  • Trials that convert: Law Insider's subscription continues after the 7-day trial unless you cancel.

How do you compare total cost for a 1-, 5- and 20-lawyer team?

Multiply the published per-user price by seats and by 12 months, then apply any minimum. Gavel Exec, LizzyAI and Microsoft 365 Copilot publish per-user prices that apply at 5 or 20 users, and GC AI, goHeather and Law Insider quote their team plans. Table 4 shows the arithmetic at list price.

Table 4. Annual cost at published list prices, checked October 30, 2026. Excludes taxes, negotiated discounts and the Microsoft 365 plan that Copilot requires. LizzyAI's page does not say whether the listed price is the monthly- or annual-commitment price. GC AI shows one price beside a Monthly/Yearly toggle; no separate yearly price displayed.

Gavel Exec, billed annually$1,740 per user per year$1,7405 × $1,740 = $8,70020 × $1,740 = $34,800 before team discount

LizzyAI Pro$40 per user per month12 × $40 = $4805 × $480 = $2,40020 × $480 = $9,600
LizzyAI Team$50 per user per month, $250 monthly minimum12 × $250 = $3,000 (minimum)5 × $50 = $250 a month, so $3,00020 × $50 × 12 = $12,000
Microsoft 365 Copilot$30 per user per month, paid yearly12 × $30 = $3605 × $360 = $1,80020 × $360 = $7,200

The LizzyAI Team row shows a minimum at work: one lawyer and five lawyers both pay $3,000 a year. For a vendor without a published price, ask for a written quote at the same seat count and term so it lines up with this table.

What should you ask sales before you sign?

Ask for the price at your seat count and term in writing, with every fee, minimum and limit. These questions cover the items that changed totals on the pages we checked.

  1. What is the price per user at our seat count, and can it change at renewal?
  2. Is there a seat minimum, spend minimum or platform fee?
  3. Is the term monthly, annual or multi-year, and can we cancel mid-term?
  4. Are onboarding, training or playbook build services included?
  5. How many queries, tokens or reviews does each user get, and what does extra usage cost?
  6. Does the plan include the Word add-in, the web app or both?
  7. Which security terms come with the plan, such as a System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 Type II report, zero data retention with AI model providers and no use of our data to train AI models?
  8. Can we test on our own contracts before paying, and does the trial need a credit card?

How did we check these prices?

On October 30, 2026, we opened each vendor's pricing page, or its product page where it has none, plus Microsoft's Copilot for Legal announcement and a republished copy of its message center notice. Where a page showed no dollar figure, the tables say "not published," and we used no third-party or customer-reported estimates.

We also checked BlackBoiler and left it out because its self-serve prices load by script and did not display. Its page says annual billing saves 17% and its 7-day trial requires a credit card. Gavel makes Gavel Exec, and its rows use the same sources and format as every other tool.
